It is owned by Volvo Cars and by extension its parent company\u00a0Geely.[1]\u00a0Geely describes the brand as &#8220;independent&#8221; from 2017 onwards and &#8220;co-owned&#8221; by it and Volvo Cars.[2]\u00a0It is headquartered in\u00a0Gothenburg, Sweden[3]\u00a0with vehicle production taking place in China.[4]\u00a0The company develops\u00a0electric performance cars\u00a0and offers performance hardware upgrades and engine software optimisations for Volvo models through their Polestar Engineered division.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Polestar name originates from the&nbsp;STCC&nbsp;Polestar racing team&nbsp;which spawned Polestar Performance AB,[5][6]&nbsp;in turn acquired by Volvo Cars in July 2015.
